Testimonials of Our Work:

Lea Lucky - Executive Director - The Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project

"The SITW sponsored clinic for the public, held on Monday 2/23/04 was well attended! 43 cats were altered! Thought you might be interested in a couple of behind the scenes stories:

#1) A man who owns and manages a mobile home park in Kitsap county was very happy to find out about us! He had been trapping cats and taking them to the local shelter, where he was certain they were being euthanized... now,
he is happy to continue trapping and have the cats spayed and neutered and returned to his property where he will "watch out for them".

#2) A gentleman recently moved here from the east coast in order to move his mom into an assisted living situation. He knew for some time that his mom had been feeding and caring for stray cats, but he didn't realize until moving
into her home just how out of control the situation had become; many, many adults and 5 kittens. He was happy to keep the cats and care for them all, but was desperate to get them all altered and stop the increasing numbers. After reading the sign that says "This Clinic Is Sponsored by Spay Is The Way" he asked that we tell those kind people thank you.

Thank you Spay Is The Way. We make great partners!"

Chris & Kim - Peninsula Spay/Neuter Project:

"A counselor at a local middle school had seen our Spay Day promotion in the newspaper and called us about one of his students, a 14 year old girl living with her mom and a LOT of cats and dogs that needed to be spayed/neutered.  The family had no money - not even a car to transport the cats and dogs to the vet. Their animals were not only breeding themselves, but they were running loose around their neighborhood impregnating their neighbors' pets as well. Because of a Spay Day grant we received from Spay is the Way, we were able to help this family alter their six cats and four dogs.  Now their pets have a chance at better lives, and the community is improved as a whole.

During Spay Day 2003, we conducted a survey of our recipients and found that median income for a family of three was less than $23,000 per year. Considering it costs close to $100 to spay a cat in our area, there is no way that family in need could afford this.  Fortunately, with a grant from Spay is the Way we were able to subsidize this cost down to a manageable level, and over 120 cats were sterilized during this promotion."

Roy Rescue:

"A call came in to MEOW in December regarding a home in Roy struggling to control the number of cats on their property.  When MEOW volunteers visited the site, they were greeted by over 50 cats of all ages, some friendly some not.  MEOW was able to rescue 29 cats and kittens. Once Spay is the Way was notified of the rescue, they didn’t hesitate to offer assistance. All 29 animals were spayed and neutered with their support and are now happily living in new homes."
